Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

We have lived together 8 years. When we first started living together I owned my own home. We have a big earning disparity. After 3 years, he bought my home and told me that he was going quitclaim it back to me but never did. I relied on his word. He is worth about 4.4 million and I make $31,000.00 a year. Do I have any right to my home since I lived there for 10 years before meeting him and had equity? The house is something that he uses to keep me in the relationship.

Are you married, and did he pay you a fair value for your home? If the answers are no and yes respectively, then you are out of luck. It is not your home anymore. You need to sit down with an attorney and scope out all of your options.

Good luck.

This is an example of why cohabitaion agreements are necessary. Please go to my blog at www.todayslawalert.com. and you will see that I have written about this subject. I have a slightly different opinion than Jay. You might have an argument for what is known as a constructive trust. I think that would be a stretch, but certainly a possibility. See your local attorney and ask if that is a possibility. Good luck.
