Removing name from Mortgage

Two single people bought a home together planning to get married. Three months later one decides they didn't want to get married.

They have never helped make any payments and would like to get their name removed from the loan.

Can this be done without refinanceing?

The only other way is to sell the property and pay off the mortgage that way.
