restrictive covenants...are they enforceable?

we have bought a house....we thought that if we put up a privacy fence we could do whatever we wanted inside of it...the covenants say...no dog runs...we want to put a dog run inside of the privacy fence that encloses our back yard...

Sorry. Subdivision covenants are enforceable by the homeowner's association of your subdivision. Covenants can only be changed in the manner specified by the bylaws. You might want to consider running for association office and/or getting 75% of the residents of the subdivision to agree that the covenant should be changed and the assocation will have to take a look at it. If the subdivision is so new that the developer is still running the association, talk to him.
