Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Rights

In earlier post I asked what rights I have regarding cutting down of trees in our yard because Vectren put a 12'' high pressure gas main through our front yard sometime in the 80's. Trees were planted in 50's and 70's and we had no contract with Vectren regarding this installation. In fact we were told when the installation was being done that we had no say so as to where the line was put and if they (gas company) wanted to, they could put it under our home. If they paid us $1/foot when this line was put in our yard, why don't they have to reimburse us if they cut our trees down. If these trees interfered with their line, why wasn't something said at that time? Don't we have any rights??

Re: Rights

Thank you for your question. Before anyone can assist you, you will need to locate your deed and you probably should have a title search done on your property to see if there are any recorded easements. If you do not have your deed, your county recorder will have a copy that you can obtain.
