Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Do I have rights to the equity in the home that was purchased with my ex? We were never married since same sex marriages aren't legal. Her name is the only name on the mortagage due to a bankruptcy on my credit. I paid at minimum 50% of the mortagage, household bills, and upgrade made to the home for almost 7 years. She ended the relationship and is unwilling to discuss the equity. I asked for her to sell me the house, she refused. I have since moved out

you might depending on the facts.you probably want more clarity but there isn't a definite yes or no answer. you need to contact a reputable lawyer in your area that does civil litigation or perhaps domestic relation work. the best source is word of mouth. your county's bar association would also keep a referral list. billboards and phone book ads should be a last source. unfortunately, unless she is a reasonable person you may end up in litigiation. litigation is expensive, time-consuming, stressful and uncertain. therefore you need to first decide what the fight is about? is the equity in the home worth the economic and emotional cost? are you better off looking forward rather than backward. you cannot change the past but you do control the future. hiring lawyers and going through perhaps years of distaste is not something anyone wants to do. good luck.
