Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Rights

Vectren (gas pipeline company) left a brochure in our door while we were in Florida stating that our 3 maple trees were interfering with their gas line and the trees will be cut down with no compensation. 2 of the trees were planted in 1956-57 and the 3rd probably in the 70's and the 12'' high-pressure line was put in the middle of our yard sometime in the 80's - I remember at the time of that installation a member of that company stated they could have installed the pipeline under our home if they wanted to. A neighbor told me that the gas company wasted no time in cutting down his pear tree in January. The brochure or a person stated the government was ''coming down on Vectren because of leaks, fires, etc.'' so Vectren is cutting trees, shrubs, etc. I would like any information as to Vectren's rights vs. our rights as homeowners. We have lived on this property since 1970. When the 12'' line was installed in the 80's (don't have exact date), we were compensated $1.00 per foot. Do we have any rights ???

Re: Rights

Thank you for your question. Your deed as well as any agreements signed in 1980 would have to be reviewed.

However, to be very frank the cost of litigation would be pretty high in comparison to whatever compensation you would receive.
