Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

My step mother just passed away. The property where she lived was in her and my father's name. Upon her death, it was understood that the property went to me. Her children have no problem with that. There was no will. How do I get the deed and property transferred to my name?

This will be a classic example of the importance of a will. If she owned the house solely at the time of her death, the property HAS to go her children. They can deed the land to you, but that may trigger gift tax issues for them. Do NOT try to do this without talking to a lawyer in your area. If you are getting a house,, you can afford the cost, and fixing this can bring a ton of trouble for everyone if not done right.

Good luck.
