Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana
Stolen motorcycle recovered
My motorcycle was recently stolen and involved in a fatal accident. I called the police to say I had seen it on the news, and it was reported stolen. The police never sent me notification, so I went to the auto desk to try to find something out a week later. They said it had coroners hold on it, I was then redirected to the accident investigator. I contacted him and was told I would be contacted when the hold was released. For the next month I tried to call him every day and for the last two months my lawyer has tried to contact him with no answer. Yesterday I get a letter from the towing company saying I had 5 days to pay $2000 in fees or my motorcycle will be sold. The towing company says the hold was released within 48 hours of it arriving there. Which doesn't make since cause I had talked to police 4 days after that and had talked to the auto desk. Shouldn't the police have notified me of the release when it happened? Shouldn't I have received paper work stating that my vehicle was able to be picked up, instead of three months later when the fees are up to $2000?

Re: Stolen motorcycle recovered
Your attorney can handle the proper paperwork with the police department and the towing company.
You shouldn't have to pay that much-especially if you have records that you've been trying to get the vechicle. Your attorney can file a complaint with the court, etc. to assist you.
