Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana
My yard is a swamp
I just recently purchased a house (approx 8 months ago) from a builder that we have found to cut many corners to lessen the cost of the house. One of the many issues that we have had is the drainage in the back yard. I live on a half acre strip and if there is any sort of rain I am absolutely unable to walk in my yard unless I want my feet to completely sink in. My neighbors next to me are experiencing the same issues. There has been no drainage pipes installed whatsoever in the yards. Is there anything that can be done? Or is it up to me to fix. Thank you for your time.

You may have recourse against the builder, depending on the documents that were signed in connection with the purchase. The economics of whether to seek a remedy from the builder may be improved by joining forces with any other neighbors who are affected. Before we could advise you we would need to know your name(s) and that of the builder so that we could determine whether there may be a conflict of interest in providing advice (for instance, if we have been providing legal counsel to the builder). Otherwise, feel free to contact me to go further if desired.
