Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana
age if majority
I was given a settlement of monies in the year 2000, to be placed in a restricted bank or savings account until I attained the age of majority.
The monies was put in a CD by my parents, that matured in 2005. The bank just rolled it over to another CD that will not mature until 2010.
I am now 18 and need the money to fix my truck to get it back on the road. The bank said I could try to petition the courts to allow me to get my money now. I go into the Air Force in July of 2007. Why can't I get to my money now?
How do I petition the courts to allow me to my money now?
Will I need a lawyer or can I do this on my own, and how long will it take?

Re: age if majority
Go to your county clerk's office, find out where the probate court is and ask to see your case file so you can copy the case number. Go to the probate court and explain your situation and ask what you have to do to get an order for the bank to release all the money to you. Take the order to the bank and demand your money. Should take you about a half a day. Many courts have a simple form to fill out, and you won't need a lawyer. The court needs to verify that you are eighteen, so take a copy of your birth certificate and some ID. Good luck.
