Re: cost of estate legal fees

Some counties have guidelines that impose a maximum percent that an attorney can charge. Our office does not charge a percent, but rather an hourly fee. I have found that an hourly fee is usually much cheaper to the estate than a fixed percentage. This is especially so, when there are failry liquid assets that do not entail much work to either liquidate or transfer ownership to the heirs.

In your case, you indicate that the estate has five pieces of property. If the estate needs to dispose of this real estate, then the attorney could wrap up quite a bit of time working on this.

Why not ask at least two different attorneys for ball park figures on how much they evision the attorney fees to be? You do not need to go to the attorney that prepared the will - go ahead and shop around.
