Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

Creditor time limits

After a person has passed how long does the estate have to stay open for any outstanding creditors to be paid? If a creditor does not do anything in that time frame can a person assume that the matter is closed with this creditor? Can they come back later to collect when the error was on their part?
