how does an executor of a will get paid?

The fees of an executor of an estate are considered an expense of administration, which has priority over most other claims in a probate estate. To get paid, the executor in a supervised estate needs to file a petition with the court explaining why fees are due, and obtain a court order authorizing the fees.
