Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

I live in Indiana. I had a unsupervised estate open for my Grandmother 4 years ago. Very simple everything went to my Mother, most of her money was setup as beneficiary on her inuity's only here checking account was in the estate we opened it to make sure she did not have any outstanding bills which she did not. I kept calling the lawyers to get the estate closed, I tried to call the court house and close it myself and was told a lawyer had to do it. Finally I was able to go to the lawyers sign the papers to close the estate, he said he would file it with the court send me a bill but I could close the estate account and give the money to my mom. Now 4 years later, I never have received a bill or heard anything from him I get a letter saying I have to still close the estate. When I called to find out what was going on he said I never closed it, we only filled out "some other paperwork stuff" and he has never been paid. He said I have to do this right away or the court will drop the case and the estate will never be closed. I cannot find the set of papers because I have moved and do not know were I put them. My question is, in my book this is closed the money has been issued out and reinvested the only property was a mobile home my mom still lives in. What does it mean if the case is dropped and never closed how would that effect me? It must not be very important since they have taken 4 years to get around to doing it.

Thank you,

Mike

You need to see a lawyer in your community to check the status of this for you. Do not just assume it is unimportant and will just go away.
