Power of Attorney

Just want to know how long is a power of Attorney good for. I am my mother's Power of Attorney and my sister keeps telling her that it needs to be renewed every 6 months. Is this true?

Re: Power of Attorney

Unless the language in the power of attorney restricts the time in which it is to be used, a properly executed power of attorney remains in force and effect from the date of execution until the earlier of the principal's death or the revocation of the power of attorney. Generally there is a clause that states the date the power becomes effective and another clause that states when it is to stop. If no dates are specified then it follows the general rule above.
