In Marion County (Indianapolis)a person with an interest in the estate must file a petition with the probate court to remove the personal representative. The petition must state valid grounds for removal -- such as conflict of interest, failure to account, or other bad behavior. Your upfront costs can't be calculated until you speak with the lawyer. If your petition is successful, then a new administrator will be appointed, who will be paid from the assets in the estate, which could diminish the funds available for distribution to beneficiaries.
