Legal Question in Disability Law in Iowa

I was caught shoplifting somethng worth 13 dollars and have court date for 10/6/10 i have no priors nothing on record at all not even speeding ticket, should i get an atty ?would it be possible to get a defferance? do i tell lawyer im guilty ? i need help fast please!!
