Legal Question in Disability Law in Iowa

My son who is hearing impaired, filed a small claims case this morning. I told the clerk of court should this case be heard that my son would need a sign language interpreter. I was told that the DA would find one but the cost would come back on my son. Shouldn't the county be responsible for paying the interpreter instead?

It took me a while to dig up the answers here but the Iowa Rules of Court, chapter 47, govern this matter. The court is required to appoint an interpreter, and that must be done on motion. At the end of the litigation the interpreter submits a claim, but that is between the interpreter and the judicial department. More information can be found in chapter 47 of the Iowa Rules of court and also at this site.
