Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa
Breaking lease
My husband started a business as a sole proprietorship about 3 years ago. He signed a 5 year lease on the space. Since then we closed the store and are now subleasing the space to someone else. The person subleasing now has decided he doesn't want to remain there for the term of the lease (16 months remaining). Do we have any options on getting out of the lease? Or are we liable for the remaining time period?

Re: Breaking lease
There's no nice way to say this and I hate to be the person to tell you, but you're on the hook for the remaining term of the lease unless there's a clause in your lease that lets you terminate it early.
Does your tenant have a similar lease with you?
