Can an employer hold a final paycheck from the employee? If so for what reason, and how long?

There would be very few legitimate reasons to withhold a final paycheck. Any that come immediately to mind would require the agreement of the employee. More than likely, a demand letter from an attorney, or a visit to the wage and hour division should get that check in the mail quickly.
