Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

conflict of interest

What kind of information can a company require when investigating potential conflicts of interest (corporate wide)--The company my husband works for is requiring them to disclose all income, investment, 401k, mutual funds etc. for all family members including the number of shares held of each.

Can they do this--name removed--I don't think my personal finance/investments should be their business.

I could see if they were asking about voting shares in a targeted industry i.e. hospitals or banks but it appears they want everything.

Re: conflict of interest

Perhaps. On its most fundamental level this is a question about one's employment. Iowa happens to be a right to work state, and unless you have a contract of employment (and that's why those employee handbooks always say they're not a contract of employment) they can fire you for any cause, good cause or no cause at all.

There may well be reasons that the company legal department is asking for this information that has to do with SEC rules and regulations.
