Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

Equal pay

My team leader has been on FMLA for 14 weeks. They have finally opened up her position. In the meantime, I was the only qualified person to fill in for her and all her job duties were assigned to me, not asked just assumed and required to do them. I have had to take care of all the problem resolution at work, I have had to deal with staffing issues, I have had to train new hires, etc. My question is-Is there any thing legal that would require my employer to pay me for this job position or back pay for performing the other person's duties for 14 weeks? The Team Leader position does get a pay differential more job responsibility. Please note that other departments have a rule that if their team leader is absent, the person that fills in for them is paid a differential, but my department doesn't have this rule yet. Is this job discrimination? Is there anything I can do to get back pay comensation? Thank you!

Re: Equal pay

The short answer is no, unless you have a contract of employment that sets out these matters in detail. Otherwise, unless you are a union member you work in a right to work state which means they can pay you whatever they want and fire you for any reason good reason or no reason.
