Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa
Is it legal for an employer to offer health benefits only to those who do not have the option of purchasing benefits through a spouse's plan? All effected employees are full time, and none of them work management. They are all at the same level of employment. Employer wants to deny benefits to those who have an option to purchase under a spouse's plan, but offer benefits to those who are single or do not have this option through a spouse. This sounds like discrimination.

Iowa is a right to work state. Unless you have a contract of employment or are covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the employer can set the terms and conditions of your employment and that includes benefits and who gets them.
