Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa
I opened a joint checking account with my mother as a minor. As an adult I never had her name taken off the account. She has some unpaid fines and a hold has been placed on my account. she has never contributed to the account and none of the money in the account is hers. How can I get my name off this account?

I don't see the bank letting go of the account until the debt is paid. That is probably the only way that they stand to collect anything. Abandoning the account will not get you out of the woods. You can talk to the bank, explain the situation and see what they have to say or perhaps have your attorney send them a nastygram. Have you checked your credit report?
