Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

I have a question concerning my clientele at a salon I currently work at. I am considering following the 13 other people that have already left the salon due to the horrific management. I want to contact my clientele. I never signed a no compete agreement and I read my handbook and the only thing that I found that mentions anything about client lists is that we had to sign a confidentiality agreement. We are to keep confidential an information we acquire or become aware of while employed. There is a list of things such as financial records, data, and client lists. I interpret that as not being able to offer client lists to any outside sources such as solicitors and other businesses. That does also mean that I can't take my clients with me when I leave? My intention of doing so would consist of remembering the clients names that I have and looking their info up on the internet. Please help. I just want to make sure that my actions cant get me sued.

As a Franchise Attorney I think you need to reconsider your strategy. Client lists are normally proprietary and belong to the employer. Soliciting these clients, even if it's names you remember, would expose you to legal liability. This also goes for "I'm on my own" announcements. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
