Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa
Theft
If someone is working and on the clock and their personal property is stolen out
of the break room, which is open only to employees, does the employer have
any responsibility to cover the damages? Would they have to reimburse the
employee in cash or product? This question is relating to the theft of an iPod.

Re: Theft
The short answer is no. Employers are generally not held responsible if their workers commit crimes as that goes beyond the scope of their employment.

Re: Theft
Probably not, but there might be some exceptions. In any event, the offending employee is responsible. I would be happy to discuss this with you.
