Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

I work in a government job. If a contractor submits a disk with their job quantities for audit (binder, patches, surface or intermediate, tied projects), is it ethically okay to change their information to reflect what we feel is the correct quantities or should only the contractor correct their errors so that both will end up with identical disks for permanent records? Would this be considered falsifiying documents to print for audit, pages not the same as submitted? Could your job be in jeopardy by making these changes? My ethics seem to be different than your office. I think the contractor should be responsible and we should not take on their accountability for their totals. Thank you for your help.

If you say so, though I have no idea how you would know that, nor do I know if that is a compliment or an insult. I will assume it is a compliment for the purposes of the forum.

I also have no idea how to answer your question, since it would depend on the use and purpose of the information on the disk. Is it in the form of an affidavit? Then, no, you should not change anything. Is it data that you are working on with the contractor? Then it might be ok. If you are truly concerned, then I would suggest contacting an attorney directly so that you can ask the specific questions you need to ask and provide the specific information an attorney would need to answer them.
