Legal Question in Business Law in Iowa

I've been working for a bar/venue (that I love) for 9 months now. I started out with a $1000/month salary to do about 20 hours of work a week. But three months in, my wages were cut in half, without notice, yet my duties were doubled.

Now, after running the business for a week entirely on my own (100+ hours of work) I am beginning to think that $500/month pay is becoming criminally underpaid for me.

Is there a legal action I can take to increase my salary? I am not making enough to live on, and my employers, while aware of the discrepancy, are taking zero action to help me, yet they expect me to work all of these hours.

Who do I talk to about this?

As a Franchise Attorney it seems you are being paid less than the minimum wage. You can always contact your local employment development department or labor department. They will be able to answer specific questions and may investigate. Of course, with any "at will" employment like yours, you can resign or they can terminate your employment. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
