Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa

Back in Oct. 2011 my ex fiancee co signed a 2004 Yukon XL for me because i was expecting my third child and needed a bigger and more reliable vehicle. I payed the downpayment, monthly notes, and pay for repairs made on the vehicle. I do have all my receipts to verify the money spent on the vehicle. Now he is threatening to take the vehicle from me because i'm leaving. Come to find out he only put his name on the title and not both of ours. My name is on the purchase papers, on the bank loan or the account and the registration papers. I do own another vehicle which he has been driving since i got the truck back in Oct. 2011. My car was in good condition and only had minor problems before he started driving it. He had to replace the motor because he blew it driving it out of town to Kansas City, Missour twice. He replaced it with a used motor that has been causing problems. The car is nowhere in the condition it was before he started driving it. I'm at a lost on what to do. I want either my car fixed to the condition it was in when he started driving it or repaid some of the money back to get a new one or fix my other one.

I want a lot of things myself but the problem you have here is using the legal system to get control of a vehicle that on the title you do not have an ownership interest in. I suggest you contact an attorney and see if there's a way out of this mess.
