Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa
My exgirlfriends car got wrecked around Christmas this year and she had no insurance. She received help from a program through our work and received 1600 dollars which was the value of her vehicle. She was trying to buy a car to replace it but she had poor credit and nobody in her family would help her. My father graciously bought the car for us for 11000 dollars but knowing that a breakup was a possibility put it in his and my name to make sure we could keep the vehicle if it ever happened. She agreed to this. She signed over the check for 1600 dollars to my father so that we could get the vehicle we desperately needed. Needless to say we did just split. Am I legally obligated to pay her the 1600 dollars back?

No. It's her problem not yours. You didn't say who has the car.
