Why do I need to get permission from the iowa civil rights commission to sue my past employer? My time limit is not within the 180 days required due to medical advise

Any kind of an action against an employer has to go through the civil rights commission first. Then, you can actually sue the employer. If you've missed the deadline for filing a claim you can still file a suit but it's likely to go nowhere.
