Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa

printing possession in town paper

I am from a small town in Ia and when back for break, I was pulled over and was in possession of alcohol and charged so. These citations are published in the town paper and I have a feeling I will have problems with the officer when I ask him to not have my possession displayed in the paper. I am a criminal justice/sociology double major at ISU and I really can't have this information revealed to everyone as I will be fighting this and hopefully not be charged anyway. I just need to know how I could approach this situation to not have it shown and have no problems with him. Is there anything that says my rights, etc. -that is kind of what I am looking for here if you have the time to investigate that for me or tell me where to go...I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

There's nothing you can do about them being published because it is public record but peoples' attention span is about 12 minutes.

I would suggest that you consider hiring an attorney who is able to make the appropriate contact to get this 'not prosecuted' or alternatively to request a deferred judgment.

You may not believe it but this is pretty common stuff in Iowa and people won't hold it against you after a few years have passed. You can make it into a success story and show how rehabilitated you've become. Some volunteer type work will suffice.

If you were arrested, of course there will be a permanent record of this and you will have to disclose it on a job application if so asked.
