Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa
Is there any way for a retailer that sells tobacco to beat the penalty if a employee sold tobacco to a minor? In Iowa the Iowa ABD as classes that the employee can take to teach them how to card properly. My employee took all the classes knows she will lose her job if she sells to minors and she got caught in a tobacco sting. I find it ridiculous that the retailer should be responsible for this, plus we have had a 6 year clean streak so it is not our intent to sell to minors. What can the retailer do?

Intent has nothing to do with it. It is a strict liability offense.
