Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa
Searching of Home
My son (21) had a party at his home and there was underage kids drinking. The police knocked at his door and said they were looking for a minor that was reported missing. My son asked them to wait at the door and he would see if the minor was there. People at the party got nervous from the police presence and started running out the back door and deck of the house. The police entered my sons house and handcuffed my son and tested minors for alcohol and then started searching my sons house ie: refrigerator, dresser drawers, under couch covers etc. I agree my son was in the wrong for having minors at his house but is it legal for the police to search through my sons belongs? They did not find anything and he was charged with contributing.

Re: Searching of Home
When the occupants started running from the scene that supplied all the probable cause needed to enter the house and perform a limited search to assure their safety.
