Legal Question in Technology Law in Iowa

If i sent my computer in to get a ribbon replaced and they swapped out my harddrive without my knowledge can i take them to small clamis to try to get my information back. They r saying i have to pay $650 to get my stuff back which i dont understand cuz it is MY stuff. the only reason i dont know if i could win is because i singed a paper saying i wasnt goignt o pay the $100 to back up my info because i was told that the only way i would lose my info is if the truck crashed and burned. Which as u can tell isnt the case. So i would like to know if because i was mislead in information does that wave that paper and get me my stuff back when it was there fault. also it isnt there property they can have there working new harddrive i want my "broken" 1 back that worked just fine b4 i sent the computer in. i also keep getting different answer first i was told the hard drive was going out then i was told it is broke and there is no way to even turn my computer on with it them i was told it just wont load right. how did it all of sudden break when it was there and y wont they give me my stuff. please help me and let me know if i have a case or not

I think maybe you ought to have your attorney write the shop a letter expressing your concerns. However, if the hard drive failed and they have to send it to a specialist to retrieve the information on it, it might well cost that much.
