Legal Question in Technology Law in Iowa
In February of this year I took my laptop to get it's screen replaced. When I picked the l picked the computer up three weeks later it would not turn on, which I thought was odd since you would need to turn the computer on to check if the screen worked. My father called the company and they said to bring it in and they would get it working. So another three weeks goes by and he calls and tells me I can come pick my computer up he had to put a new harddrive in it- which I did not give him permission to do. I get the computer back, turn it on, and the first thing it says is you have a non-genuine version of windows. Then it says drivers not installed.
At this point I have had enough of them and have a friend who is into computers take a look at it for me. He tells me that there is a pirated version of windows on it- he can even get his genuine code to work. Then he says that he can't get the drivers to work because they have a completely different hard drive in the computer than what the computer needs. We tried to call the store and tell them this but they insisted that they have done nothing wrong and won't help. I really do not want them touching my computer anymore. I just need a working computer.
Can I do anything legal here? Thanks.
