Legal Question in Construction Law in Iowa
Can I sue a contractor for legal fees for not fulfilling a signed contract?
I hired a contractor to complete a patio, fireplace and Arbor in my back yard. I paid a 3500 deposit for materials and they were to be delivered within a week. To date i have a mess in my yard, Patio pavers delivered and no Fireplace kit or wood for the arbor. He keeps telling me he is going to refund 2117.00 of my deposit and not finish the project. I would be fine with this but he hasn't sent a check either. This project was to be finished by the end of Oct. Would be happy to send a copy of the contract signed by both parties.

You can sue him for breach of contract but the problem you and everyone else who sues someone has is "How do I collect the money?" It might help to get an attorney and send the guy a nastygram if he doesn't pay up.
