Legal Question in Consumer Law in Iowa
Apartment lease
I am currently living in Iowa in an apartment. I recently lost my job and thus will be leaving Iowa.
I had signed a lease for 1 year. Can I get out of the sub-lease agreement by showing my employment termination letter
to the landlord, without having to pay the rent for the rest of the lease period.
Please let me know.
Regards

Re: Apartment lease
Only if your landlord is a very nice person (or if your lease allows for it, which is doubtful). He (or she) has nothing to do with your leaving the area, so cannot be held responsible for it. If you've been a good tenant, and maybe put forth some effort in helping find a new tenant, it's possible some landlord might give you a break.
