Legal Question in Consumer Law in Iowa

Breach of verbal agreement of sale between private parties.

A man in Iowa advertised a kayak for sale. I was the first person to call him and he agreed to sell it to me the next day. I called him again to see if I could arrive a half hour after the original time we agreed to and he informed me that if I did not come at our stated time, he had other interested parties. I told him I would be there at the original time. As I was en route he called me and informed me that he had sold it to another party. Do I have any legal recourse? (I live in Wisconsin an hour away and the ad for the kayak was from a Wisconsin paper if that is important)

No, sorry, I don't see the elements of a contract here. Put yourself in his position. He has someone willing to buy it right there, right now, and someone on their way to look at it to see if they want to buy it. What would you do? At least he was decent enough to call you before you got there.
