Legal Question in Consumer Law in Iowa
cashier check
Rent deposit check made out to two roommoates with the ''and'' between names. Roommate 1 calls leaves message needing signature, roomate 2 sends text saying sign her name as she is out of state. #1 texted back saying so you agree the check is mine since you didn't pay last month rent or do any cleaning. #2 texted back to say she agreeed. So can #1 sign for ''deposit only'' and put in her checking account? (each have seperate checking accounts.)

Re: cashier check
No. The check should be endorsed by both parties. Unless you have a valid power of attorney to sign on the other person's behalf, you would be committing fraud by signing that person's name on the back of the check.
