Legal Question in Consumer Law in Iowa
home security system renewal policy
I purchased a home security system with a 3 yr service agreement in June 2006. I called to cancel the service and was told I needed to send a written notice to cancel 30 days before the contract expired. Since I failed to do so the contract was automatically renewed for another year. I had called the company a month before to inquire about the experation of this contract and was told nothing about a 30 day notice. I was told if i refuseto pay another year service my account would be sent to collections. What can I do about this total scam?

You would need to review the contract you signed, or have any attorney review it for you, to see if that is what the contract actually says.
