Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa
Too Big for Small Claims?
An old roommate owes me $2,800 for back rent and
utility bills, and he and I signed and dated an unofficial
promissory note stipulating how and when he would
repay me. He hasn't, of course, repaid one cent of the
debt. I'd like to know how I could pursue this legally: is
this claim too big for small claims court?
Also, is the promissory note binding? It's simply a note
he typed up (he's a third-year law student) and we both
signed and dated (no witnesses).
Thank you.

Re: Too Big for Small Claims?
Sounds like you covered the basics, and depends on where is is living, it may or may not be in samll claims, but getting a judgement is only half, and most times the easy half, collecting the judgement is a lot of followup work, good luck
