Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa
cancellation of membership/fee collection
I cancelled my membership to a gym by sending a letter stating the desire to cancel and proof of address change. Gym fees were withdrawn from my bank account the following month. I contacted the gym and was informed that it would take 30 days for the letter to be effective. They continued to bill me for membership 6 months and now claim they didn't receive a letter. (the bills have since been sent to collections) I have no copies of the letter. Am I required to pay this?

Re: cancellation of membership/fee collection
Need to see your written contract with the club or any written policy on cancellation. Be sure to keep copies of any written notices, letters or emails you sent to them cancelling membership.
