Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

claim

I owed a company $300 dollars, which they took to small claims court. When I received notice of the company sueing me for the $300, I immediately paid them the whole amount. Now they say I owe all the court costs too. Do I have to pay the court costs?

Re: claim

Depends on the terms of your agreement with the company were. Since they did not obtain a judgment against you, you would not be required to pay court costs unless the agreement you signed with the company required it. However, unless the case was dismissed, they could still go in and obtain a judgment for the court costs. Make sure you show up to court for any scheduled hearings, trials, etc. until you hear from the court that the case is dismissed.
