Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa
how to get a collection company to leave you alone. We paid off a credit card in 2004 they sold it to a collection agency who sued us in 2008 the case was dismissed we were able to prove the card had been paid off. Now the collection agency four years later are calling and sending letters again. I called today I knew they would not give me info the card was in my husbands name, but they accused me of opening the account and not wanting my husband to know it had gone to collections What should our next step be we live in Iowa

Depending on the circumstances, there may be a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a complaint under which would certainly get them to "leave you alone."
