Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

credit reporting issues

It is common practice for clerk of courts to report to the credit bureaus any liens and judgments against someone. Is it a law that they have to? If not, is there a law that says the reporting has to stay on a persons credit report? Is this a state by state issue?

Re: credit reporting issues

I am not aware of clerks of court providing information to credit bureaus. Judgments and liens are matters of public record. The credit reporting bureaus collect this public record information. There is no law, at least in IL or IA, which requires information to appear on a credit report, however, there is no law which would require the credit reporting companies to remove such information unless it is erroneous.
