Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

debt collector asking me for money on alleged account of dead parent

I received a letter as ''The executor'' of my late father from a law firm representing a company called Asset Acceptance. My father had no estate as he was in a nursing home and for the last year of his life, on state aid. This Asset Acceptance sent him notice regarding a debt two years ago and we wrote asking for more detailed information. They never responded, so we figured it was an error. Now this. Do we need an attorney? My father lived in Iowa. I am in Minnesota as is the firm representing Asset Acceptance.

It depends on what the letter says. You also might want to look into whether they violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
