Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

My employer has contacted me stating that I have a past debt owed to them and must pay or they are terminating my employment, is this legal?

I was given a number to a account liquidater co. and asked to take care of the debt. I have no knowledge of the debt, and I asked the liquidating co. to present info on the debt and they have never presented myself with any documentation. They had information they gave me over the phone ie checks to other bussiness but not to my current employer other than 300 dollar service fees, on alleged 6 year old debt. None of this seems like legal practices, and I would just like to see some kind of proof of what I am being accused of!

What you have to understand is that Iowa is a right to work state and that means unless you have a contract of employment or are covered by a collective bargaining agreement you can be terminated for any reason, good reason or no reason at all. You could probably get a better understanding of this if you obtain a free credit report from one of the three reporting agencies and look there for evidence of a charged off debt.
