Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa
Medical Bills
I have a medical bill from Mayo Clinic that I have been making payments on every month. I am paying what my family and I can afford. Mayo Clinic says they need a copy of my financial records. I refused to give that to them. Now I have recieved a bill that shows they have given my bill to a collection agency. With that little bit of background I have two questions. Are they allowed to ask for my financial records? Are they allowed to send my bill to a collection agency when I am making monthly payments?

Re: Medical Bills
The Clinic can send your debt to a collection agency if you are not making the previously agreed monthly payments. With regards to the financial records, they can ask, but there is no legal reason you must turn those over to them.
