Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

I owe a medical bill of $1400 , and for the last year I have made $10 a month payments religiously. (It was originally $1553. I have been told by the billing department that if I do not pay it in full by Feb 24th it will go to small claims court and my wages will be garnished. There was never any verbal or written payment schedule. I would receive an updated monthly bill showing my $10 payment. I owe that debt but I am paying on it and am not trying to get out of it. If I am making payments can they do this????

They can sue you if they so choose. You could argue that their accepting payments is in the nature of an accord and satisfaction. Also, you can request that the court set up a payment schedule and if you keep to it they can't garnish you.
